Howdy and what a beautiful day!! The forest service has scheduled an open house in Albany in response to our request to have one on a weekend as so many folks would like to attend who are unable to because of work. So, hopefully everyone will do what they can to make it. Remember it is those who show up who have a voice in our OHV future!! Please pass this on to your clubs so we have a good showing!! Thanks, Lindy

Why the Forest Service needs you...
As part of the 2005 Travel Management Rule, the Forest Service wants your input. The rule states that each national forest and grassland must specifically designate all roads, trails and areas open to motor vehicle use.
By mid-2008, the Siuslaw National Forest will decide which roads, trails and areas to designate for motorized use and what type of motorized use should be allowed. Road and trail designations will include class of vehicle and, if appropriate, time of year.
The Forest Service is seeking input from everyone who uses National Forest lands, especially you! Decisions will be made by considering input from you, as well as comments from State, county, tribal and local governments.
Why was the Travel Management Rule needed?
There has been a dramatic increase and technological advances in off-highway vehicles (OHV’s) over the last 30 years, and to maintain a quality experience for all users, the Forest Service must carefully manage this use.
Across the United States, OHV users account for 11 to 12 million visits to national forests and grasslands. Proper management of motorized travel is necessary to prevent damage to resources and minimize conflicts between different user groups.
The Travel Management Rule provides the framework for each national forest or grassland to designate those roads, trails, and areas open to motor vehicle use.
A Three Step Process
The Siuslaw National Forest will work collaboratively over three phases with all members of the public to determine which roads, trails and areas will be open for motorized use, to maintain a quality recreation experience for all users and protect resources.
Phase I – Rounding Out Our Inventory
The Forest undertook an extensive public involvement effort to identify Off Highway Vehicle travel routes and dispersed camps from May 1, 2007 to July 31, 2007.
Phase II – Environmental Analysis (NEPA)
In 2008, the Forest will continue public scoping. A scoping letter was sent out on January 14, 2008 describing the Forest proposal. Maps portraying this proposal are located on our website.
The Forest will also provide open houses at five (5) locations in late January 2008 and early February 2008 to answer your questions and solicit your comments (See above). You are invited to participate
Following public scoping, the Forest will begin the environmental analysis. Prior to the 30 comment period on the Preliminary Analysis (Draft Environmental Assessment), the public will be briefed on our findings. The Preliminary Analysis will then be made available to the public for the 30 day comment period. Following the review of the comments, the Forest Supervisor will make the decision.
Phase III – Travel Rule Implementation
Under the Travel Management Rule only those routes, areas and dispersed camps displayed on the Motor Vehicle User Map will remain open for motorized use.
