Subject: Keenig Creek Campground Improvements
As many of you are aware, the Recreation Unit has been working with John Pine conducting some forest management at Keenig Creek Campground through a small timber sale. All falling and yarding are now done and the contractor has about 10 log loads to haul and then the sale contract work will be completed. Now you can see the park through the trees! The next phase of work involves brush clean-up, re-construction of 5 to 6 walk-in campsites with tables and fire rings and selective tree planting. Over the next five years an intensive brush management program will be implemented to keep the park from becoming an overgrown Alder patch as it was before. For the time being, no other major improvements are planned except investigating if the current water well can pass Oregon drinking water standards and testing. If we can provide water, we will most likely charge the walk-in camp site rate of $5.00 per night.
