Thanks to all of you who have responded to our call for volunteers to clear the trails!
The Jordan Creek area trails have now been cleared according to reports from the volunteers. Quite a few volunteers are headed into the Cedar Creek and Diamond Mill area this week and will be working hard to clear those trails.
I also appreciate all of the input you have provided in response to the various emails I have sent out requesting your opinions on various potential changes. It is really great to hear from you before we move forward with potential changes.
On the Diamond Mill issues of whether or not to limit parking lot riding to entry and exit (after we get good signage up directing users to the various new opportunities surrounding the parking lot) the overwhelming majority of responses were in favor of limiting parking lot riding to entry and exit only.
The proposal to put wood chips on the Kid's Track just below the Trials Area was also supported by a large majority of the responses. I will be requesting ODOT to stockpile chips for us there as they clear the highways of all the deadfall from the recent storm.
Most users also seem to support some delineation of center parking lot for pull through type parking of long vehicle combinations. We will most likely experiment with different arrangements by using traffic tubes www.trafficsafetystore.com/SubCatProdDetails.aspx?CID=3&SCID=11 to define temporary boundaries and direction of the center area parking. Please note that there is no plan to create separate, numbered type parking pads/slots as many, many users have made it very clear to us that this area needs to remain one large open gravel area that can accomodate a great number of vehicles with many of them clustered into small groups, as is customary, around the periphery of the parking lot. We just want to encourage more organized parking in the center of that area.
ODF management is addressing the issue of fees or no fees for staging areas, dispersed campsites, improved campgrounds, etc.at the Salem level in an effort to come up with a comprehensive and cohesive policy that will be utilized by all ODF Districts.
Thanks again for all of the input and volunteer help!
