Riley Ranch Dune Access....one last chance.
Hello All, I am really digging deep here for support, please help get the word out. Please do this today.
I wish I could say many of us had already commented in the past on connecting Riley Ranch OHV Park to the dunes via a rail crossing bridge, but basically from all the Dune Riders in the state, only seven of us sent in letters of support, compared to over hundreds opposing the idea. We have to do better!!! Per the USFS record, those individuals that had already commented to get us this far was Don Amador, Tom Tobey, Dan Surratt, Lindy Minten, Terry Dewitt, Kevin Studer, and yours truly. Thank-you to those fellow riders for commenting, and saving our access up to this point, but we need to do this one last time, along with all the other dune OHV'ers we can reach.
The two remaining alternative plans can be viewed at www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/projects/nepa/rileyranch/index.shtml
Basically the two choices are 1) No build, no direct dune access, or 2) approve a easement, and construct the bridge & trail that allows equestrian, and OHV access to the dunes from the new park. There is not much choice here, please send a e-mail in support of Alternative #2. If we don't support, hundreds of thousands of our ATV tag fee money that has already been spent, will be lost.
It is very simple, just e-mail comments-pacificnorthwest-siuslaw-centralcoast@fs.fed.us, in the subject line place Riley Ranch Support Alt# 2. In our talking points, pick a couple....
a) you enjoy riding this section of the dunes.
b) this trail access will lessen the crowding at other staging areas.
c) realize it takes a bridge to safely cross the railroad tracks.
d) how important it is to ride on designated routes only, and for us as riders to help patrol ourselves.
e) just as important, to be courteous riders to other types of trail users. (this access will require sharing with equestrian riders, or this project will not happen, and both groups will loose access) This is a very good opportunity to extend the olive branch to equestrian riders.
Give you're contact info, and thank them for being given the chance to comment. A return e-mail should be then received, documenting you're comment submittal was received by the USFS.
