Hello Carole, Thank you for your information. What we would really like to do is become part of the solution. We are avid ATVers and are currently fighting hard against SB 49.....not because we don't want our sport to be safer....there is just a better way. We have been working with Parks and Rec, many ATV groups and individuals, some dealers, and some national organizations. Bottom line, we got slammed by this article in the Press so one of our rocket scientist got a copy and found it to be a very well written, and a fair assessment. Seems the Press was the one to leave out the fair part. Long story short.... we have lots of support, several Senators and Representative that are willing to draft Legislation to help reduce injuries and deaths. What we don't have is numbers.....and we are on the same page with regards to including more information. We can't find a solution until we can address the problems. We do have vital information and experience we can bring to the table. The majority of us fully support helmets for all, safety training and education, and better self policing in addition to increased law enforcement and accountability. Our family has been riding very safely for years - are children always have helmets, chest protectors, etc but most importantly - they are under constant supervision at all times.
Can your team help us??? We would like to meet with you, have a work session, and formulate a plan. Since we have members from all over the State, it would be wonderful if we could meet in an afternoon. We have some great ideas we would like to share and hope to meet soon as we need to start putting together our bill
together - we want your input!! It is better to have all of the pieces of the puzzle so we can get a true picture. Please leave me a bit of time to arrange it as the folks that will participate need a bit of time!!
One last favor...One of our members has your report and is asking for your excel spreadsheet with the specifics on date, place, age, etc. We would of course understand the need to remove names before sending. This will give him a chance to prepare. If there is anything you would like from us, please let us know and we will be happy to send it your way. Thanks for caring about our kids - and thank you for being objective and fair in your report! Lindy Minten
and I wrote back again...............
At this time, Dr. Mullins is not interested in working with anyone. I'll get in touch with you if that changes.
Thanks,
Carole

Will we have an opportunity in the future? You're information is a huge piece of this puzzle.... Thank you and please let me know if we may have a chance in the future to work with you. Thank you, Lindy Minten
Hi Lindy,
We are more than happy to share the article with you and I'm sorry that Dr. Mullins does not have time in his demanding schedule to meet with your and your team. He cannot share the spreadsheet with you as that information is confidential. He did submit that data to the state health division...you can try to contact them for the trauma registry data you're looking for.
I'm sorry I can't be of any more help,
Carole

A letter from one of our members......I am so glad I am a part of this group!!! Lindy
If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.” C. S. Lewis
What happened to Sue and her family was tragic. This sentiment has been voiced by all, especially you Lindy.
This tragedy happened over 4 ½ years ago, not just yesterday. If Sue had come out with the message of “Don’t use ATV’s as babysitters” “Parents need to watch their Kids at all times when the ride” “Parents need to take Safety Training to learn the dangers of riding ATV’s”, we would be in full support. This is not a case of Sue and Kyle out riding together. And because of an inherent design flaw the ATV killed Kyle and other families will be next.
Unfortunately, she put herself in a bad position by pushing legislation that punishes everyone else for her mistake. We are for common sense regulations that will reduce accidents and death. We do not want to see another Kyle tragedy.
And to make matters worse, for all her best intentions, the amended Bill would not have stopped Kyle from being killed. That’s another tragedy…
