My daughter and I raced at Washougal yesterday. It was announced on the PA that a bill in Washington was just nearly sent to vote that would have effectively outlawed ALL ATV's, off road bikes, jet skis, etc (really?) - even riding on private property. Hard to believe that something this detrimental to so may different sports could get that close to being put into effect. The negative impact on those local businesses would be horrific. People were advised to call and write in regarding their concerns should this ever come up in legislation sessions again.
While I don't know if they were really relaying completely accurate details, it would be extremely scary even if it was half correct.
The bills in Oregon were also mentioned and people were encouraged to call their legislators and representatives. The word is out folks, but we need to continue to let others in our sport know through other venues about the dangers of legislation against our favorite past time.
One thought - next time one of us goes into our local ATV / Motorcycle shop, bring a (group approved?) current info sheet showing the bill's language and maybe a brief explanation in lay terms what that might mean. That way if the shop has nothing at all posted where it can be seen, you can ask to have it posted, or if what they do have is out of date, it can be replaced. Other places that can be used - last fuel / grocery stops used when travelling to Sand Lake, Browns camp etc.
I was in Action Motorsports in OC this weekend, and I do remember seeing an info sheet, although I didn't take the time to read it. I just remembered as I was writing this and thought that this might be something that everyone can take a part in. We just need a single, concise sheet that can be used by all. Is there already something like this posted on a someone's website that is appropriate?
