Hello - If all goes well in the Senate it looks like the bill will move to the House next week. What we really need now are letters. I know it is sunny outside and sitting at a computer writing a letter isn't all that much fun - but PLEASE - even a short note will be wonderful. Your letter will be copied and given to the committee members in support of SB101. Then, it will be assigned to a House committee, most likely Transportation (very nice group of Reps. including Rep. Smith who has helped us defeat 49), have a Hearing (we can all go to that) and if passed through them onto the House Floor. Since we are getting to the end of the session, this should move very quickly. The Transportation Committee heard all of the other bills relating to ATVs (Helmets, Doubles, Titles) and didn't pass them out so, with that in mind we will have some work ahead of us letting them know this is something we all support. Rider fit with no minimum age, safety training, and supervision - those are the three key parts of this bill. We will also be very involved in the planning portion of safety training so our work is far from done. This is all great for us because rather than someone else making decisions for our sport, we are bringing everyone together in a very proactive and responsible manner to fix the real problems and insulate ourselves from future attacks and a complete ban on family riding (as with SB49). We also have a responsibility to our kids in this sport and safer is always better as a whole. No longer will our sport be held accountable when we are unwilling to hold the parent themselves accountable. This is a great family activity that we are trying to protect for our children, grandchildren, and so on.... Sure there will be things we missed or need to fix, and WE will. We have to start somewhere and it sure seems like this is a great place to start. Everyone has been welcome in our group so we have benefited from a vast number of folks' ideas - this hasn't ever been about one person's ideas but rather thousands...each one as critical as the next. It is wonderful when WE can, have, and will continue to work together and have such an effect...wow. So please, one last letter - you can send it to me or directly to Sen. Devlin's office. Short and sweet it fine!! If you need another copy of the bill let me know and I will send it out to you again... Thanks once again!! Lindy
