Hello - Celebration over, time to get back to work.... My goal is to meet with the Corvallis Forest Service folks next week to go over exactly what is expected and ask at least a million questions of them. Meanwhile Tom Tobey is working at the 500 page USDA directive. I have also spoken with several Senators and Reps who clearly are unable to help us as this is a Federal matter rather than a State matter - thus we must contact our Federal Senators and Congressmen I will round up a contact list for us. Jody is hard at work with the Coastal Forest Service and Ed, Barrett, Tom, and Randy are working hard up North. We had a "nice" compliment from Senate Majority Leader Kate Brown yesterday in the Oregonian as she referred to us as "email wackos" and gives credit only to her colleagues for getting this legislation through. Apparently she is stepping down with possibly bigger "State" service in mind. Considering the "email wackos" represent about a fourth of Oregon's population and were very effective in participating in "our" legislative process it would be wise to remember her name if she runs for office again. I can't imagine a Senator publically trashing such a large and vocal group publically. I certainly plan on dropping her another email in the spirit of citizen involvement and free speech.... sen.margaretcarter@state.or.us <sen.margaretcarter@state.or.us>. See the full article below.
On a much lighter note - there is a really great and funny video on U-tube called "Battle of the Chambers". There is an ATV portion (thanks to Bev Stubbs and Salem Sand club for providing the quads). It is worth checking out.
Here is some info and advice on how to map from our friends at BlueRibbon. I have been asked many times in the past about joining some of these organizations and I will strongly rec. becoming a member of the ATVA/AMA and the Blue Ribbon Coalition. It isn't enough to just join these groups- participation and support is key. The ATVA/AMA has been very supportive of our group since day one and Blue Ribbon has been fighting land closures long before we even knew about them. Frankly, we need all the help we can get. One of the things I have learned in this fight is our enemy got a head start - they are organized, rich, smart and powerful. Unless we pull together we will be looking at closure signs and restrictions rather than sand, forest, and sea.
And at long last, with SB101 behind us I must do a little house cleaning.... Please let me know if you wish to continue with updates on other ATV/MC issues. I must also ask that for those sending emails directly to this list, please send your comments to me to add to the updates so folks aren't getting tons of messages each day. We have had several people drop off because of this. Hopefully we will have a really awesome website developed soon with the creation of a free membership Oregon OHV (including snowmobiles, jeeps, rails, etc) club. We are working really hard on that as we speak!! It has been such a pleasure working with all of you and seeing our hard work pay off. You, and your precious families, are the very reason it has all been worth it to me.....thank you so much for all of your support and friendship - Lindy
