Forest Service to Host Next Series of
Travel Management Workshops
BEND - Last summer, the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests hosted a series of six public workshops to begin to develop a vision for travel management on these National Forests and the Crooked River National Grassland. The workshops were held in response to a Forest Service rule published in 2005 that requires the Forest Service to designate roads, trails and areas for all motorized travel.
Since the 2006 public workshops, the Deschutes/Ochoco Travel Management Working Group (representing broad-based community interests) has met 12 times and contributed over 1,400 hours to developing criteria dealing with motorized access to dispersed campsites. The group has also developed consensus around some potential areas to consider modifying existing designated routes to provide for motorized trails on the Forests and Grassland. Final recommendations from the Working Group will be presented at this next series of public workshops.
Please join us and give your feedback on the Travel Management Working Group’s recommendations for motorized access on the Deschutes & Ochoco National Forests and the Crooked River National Grassland. For additional information on the local effort and national management rule visit the website at: www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/travel-mgmt/index.shtml or contact Project Manager Mollie Chaudet at (541) 383-5517.
